Curitiba is a city located in southeast Brazil, and is the capital and largest city of the state of Paraná. Its population of almost two million makes it the eighth-largest city in Brazil, and its economy is the fourth-largest in the country. Innovative urban planning has allowed Curitiba’s population to swell since the 1960s, and the city is famed for its successful bus rapid transit system. Curitiba was granted the Global Sustainable City Award in 2010.
