Cardiff is the capital city of Wales. With an urban population of approximately 350,000 and a metro population of over one million, Cardiff is the eleventh-largest city in the United Kingdom. Originally a port for coal and subsequently a mining town, Cardiff is now the Welsh commercial centre, a media hub, and a popular tourist destination. Though the city only accounts for 10 per cent of Wales’s population, its economy makes up nearly 20 per cent of Welsh GDP.
