Workshop & Roundtable: How to create smarter and more inclusive mobility offerings (22 June 2023)

Overview

Urban mobility services and its underlying infrastructure are perhaps the two most significant elements that stand to re-shape our cities in the coming years. With cities battling to reduce emissions in the fight against climate change, new mobility services that are shared, smart and sustainable are going to be critical as authorities look to encourage a shift in mobility behaviours among the public.

In the first of a series of in-person and virtual workshops being hosted by SmartCitiesWorld and the National League of Cities, we are exploring these themes alongside the UK MOVE conference in London, with senior transportation and city practitioners uncovering the practical steps that local and transport authorities can take to make their mobility services more appealing, accessible and inclusive, the role of technology in this mission, and how to encourage modal shift among citizens.

This in-person workshop, taking place on 22 June in London, consists of two case studies from transportation leaders – one from Europe, one from North America – which are followed by an expert roundtable, where attendees will have their chance to probe into what has made those case studies a success and plot their own path forward with their own projects. Among the discussion points are:

  • Integrating mobility services and public transit, both digitally and physically
  • The role of technology in making mobility services more accessible and equitable, encompassing passenger information through real-time data, smart ticketing, demand-responsive transit and more
  • Spreading the word to communities to encourage modal shift once the groundwork has been laid
  • How these elements combine to continue post-pandemic ridership and revenue recovery, and the path to growth
