This SmartCitiesWorld roundtable brings together key stakeholders from local authorities, developers, and investors to generate innovative ideas and practical strategies for unlocking the financial potential of large-scale, sustainable urban development.
Background
Cities are responsible for over 70% of global greenhouse gas emissions, placing them at the forefront of the climate crisis – both in terms of causation and impact. Rising cases of flash flooding, extreme heat and other such pressures will not only have serious implications on city infrastructure but also on the citizens.
The transition to net zero emissions in cities requires a paradigm shift beyond the incremental progress seen today. Estimates suggest a funding gap of billions of pounds per year needs to be closed to meet ambitious climate targets.
This roundtable aims to address these urgent needs by exploring innovative delivery and financing models that can unlock the necessary investment to achieve a sustainable and prosperous future for UK towns and cities. We will also delve into the challenges and opportunities for scaling up sustainable city initiatives.
The workshop event is a closed room, invitation only event with priority given to those delegates working for cities, local or regional authorities. We will also bring together a number of investors and developers to share their experiences with local authorities. All registrations are reviewed by our event curator to ensure the perfect mix for the conversation.
