Driving meaningful AI experiences in urban spaces
Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the way we live, work, and interact in urban spaces. From smart mobility to public safety, from waste management to citizen engagement, AI offers new opportunities and challenges for local governments and communities.
The aim of this series of roundtable discussions, hosted in partnership with Microsoft, is to explore the implementation of AI solutions that enhance the quality of life and well-being of urban residents and visitors, as well as the workforce of cities.
The roundtables are an opportunity to have open, transparent discussions with city and local government peers from around the world in a closed-room, off-the-record setting, coming together to share challenges, case studies and solutions on AI implementation in cities today. These discussions will foster and encourage collaboration and innovation among different stakeholders in the urban ecosystem.
There will be a series of four separate roundtables to attend, cover the following themes:
• Delivering personalised citizen experiences
• Empowering the local government workforce
• Transforming local government operations
• Protecting data privacy and sovereignty for local governments

Roundtable Topic 2: Empowering the local government workforce

AI can significantly empower local government workforces by enhancing organisational productivity and efficiency, improving cross-agency collaboration, and accelerating data-driven decision-making. AI-driven analytics can provide deep insights from vast amounts of data, enabling more informed and timely decisions. AI can also facilitate more seamless communication and collaboration across different agencies, breaking down silos and fostering a more integrated approach to governance.

Roundtable Topic 4: Protecting data privacy and sovereignty for local governments

This roundtable discussion focuses on the potential for AI to support local governments in ensuring data privacy and sovereignty, exploring how they can leverage cloud solutions to drive digital transformation while maintaining strict adherence to data compliance, security, and policy regulations. We will dive into the role of AI and cloud solutions in balancing innovation with sovereignty, with attendees given the opportunity to look at driving economic and social progress while ensuring citizen data remains protected. The roundtable will facilitate a deep dive into best practices, policy challenges, and strategic opportunities in ensuring a secure and sovereign digital transformation for the public sector.

As Director of Strategic Marketing at Madrid City Council, she leads the tourism brand strategy and coordinates its digital transformation integrating cutting-edge technologies like AI to enhance the visitor experience.

Camila Neves is a public sector and management specialist with over 15 years of experience in the government sector. Together with her team, she leads the Automatiza project, an initiative that promotes the development of automation skills for public servants. The results include, among others, over 7,000 hours saved in public processes and more than 800 trained public servants.
