The Foundation Louis Vuitton Museum is a jaw dropping wonder of modern architecture. Unique, and total fearless, this is the grandest of all grand designs. It defies gravity, appearing like a floating cloud on the edge of le Jardin d’ Acclimatation in the world-famous Bois de Boulogne Park in Paris.

 

Designed by acclaimed architect Frank Gehry, and the brainchild of Bernard Arnault, patron of the arts and chairman of Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH), this emblematic building has been described as haute couture. It houses one of the most valuable art collections of its time as well as that of Monet, Picasso and Van Gogh, reinforcing the connection between LVMH and art and design.

 

“We wanted to present Paris with an extraordinary space for art and culture, and demonstrating daring and emotion by entrusting Frank Gehry with the construction of an iconic building for the 21st century,” said Bernard Arnalt. And he has delivered but it’s not just the design that is ground breaking but also the technical infrastructure of the multi-award winning 11,000 sq.m building sets a new benchmark as well. This includes state-of-the-art fire, safety and building energy management from Siemens Building Technologies.

Distinctive, prestigious buildings are often irreplaceable and present extra demands for effective and reliable fire safety solutions. The Fondation Louis Vuitton Museum is enveloped in glass sails up to forty six meters in height with a massive entrance hall which leads to twelve exhibition galleries housing priceless masterpieces and international art collections. Each gallery is a different shape and size. The height, distinctive outline and scale of this monumental building makes it challenging to access and protect.

 

An intelligent Siemens fire safety system has been installed which combines the highest safety standards with international product innovations and cutting-edge technology. Rigorous testing carried out by Siemens proved the effectiveness of the system, even in rooms with very high ceilings and volume.

 

The system consists of the advanced Sinteso fire control panel and fire detection system. Intelligent Sinteso devices will detect minute smoke particles and will provide an instant fire alert. Importantly, they will determine false fire phenomena due to issues such as airborne particles, humidity and temperature change, and will not alarm in these instances. This solution provides the highest levels of detection reliability with optimum adaptability to customer requirements and resources.

 

The Siemens contract package includes comprehensive, 24/7 maintenance for all facilities, with a guaranteed minimum response time. In addition, the Siemens Desigo integrated building solution has been installed which offers fully automatic control of temperature and hydrometry. The contribution the Desigo system plays in minimising the museum’s energy consumption has been recognised by the award of the HQE, a new quality seal given to buildings housing cultural assets that have reduced their energy consumption.
