Roundtable (27 June): Turning the built environment green - where should cities focus and what are the quick wins?
The Cities Climate Action roundtables bring together key stakeholders from local authorities, technology providers and investors to generate innovative ideas and practical strategies for unlocking the challenges we face about climate action. They run during the Cities Climate Action Summit (26-27 June) - which is also held during London Climate Action Week.
This roundtable runs in a closed room format. Each session will allow up to 15 delegates to discuss the topics in question and will be moderated by one of the SmartCitiesWorld team.
Roundtable Overview
As we look at the continued re-evaluation of urban space, cities must consider how roads and sidewalks will be reshaped and pedestrianised to support green and active transportation goals, plus how the redistribution of the energy network is going to impact the space available in cities, in line with our other roundtables, but must also consider the redevelopment of brownfields for urban greening and nature-based solutions to urgent questions around air quality and pollution. In this roundtable, a group of urban planners, policy specialists and solutions providers will come together to answer:
- What can cities do to promote green infrastructure in urban redevelopment?
- What data do cities need to re-shape the built environment to be more sustainable?
- What partnerships need to exist between public and private sectors to enable the development of a more sustainable urban environment, and how do they establish the rules of engagement?
