Enhancing urban resilience in the face of climate change
Global cities are grappling every day with the growing challenges posed by climate change. Urban areas are increasingly vulnerable to extreme weather events and natural disasters, with wildfires, heatwaves, air quality degradation, and flooding being just a few of the climate impacts that are placing unprecedented stress on critical urban infrastructure.
Essential services like electricity, water, and connectivity are at risk of significant disruption as these challenges mount and the climate continues to change, raising urgent concerns for city planners, infrastructure providers, and communities.
At this roundtable, hosted by SmartCitiesWorld in partnership with Itron during the 2024 Smart City Expo World Congress, join experts and peers from various fields within cities, including urban planning, sustainability, and infrastructure management, to discuss how cities can enhance their resilience against the multifaceted impacts of climate change.
The session aims to explore practical strategies, innovative technologies, and collaborative efforts that can help cities not only withstand but thrive amidst these challenges.
As a closed-room event, cities in attendance can feel free to be open and transparent about their challenges, what’s working for them, what’s not, and where they need further support. The roundtable will encourage sharing of best practice and will help cities toward finding solutions to their most pressing challenges.

Raimundo Rodulfo joined the City of Coral Gables in 2004 and currently serves as Director of Innovation and Technology and Chief Innovation Officer. He leads strategic planning, oversight and management of citywide IT operations, infrastructure and smart city initiatives. Under his leadership the city has received numerous awards and recognitions.
Prior to joining the city, he spent ten years in the private sector working for various Fortune 500 companies such as Bellsouth, Siemens, and NCR in varying capacities. During this time, he also assisted on engineering and technology projects for Motorola and Lucent in Chicago, and Agilent Technologies in Silicon Valley.

His interests include carbon accounting, energy equality, and rapid urbanization in developing countries. Carlos has engineering and business degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and Cornell University. He enjoys spending time with his family and traveling to interesting places.
